2020-21 Panini Chronicles Box Break

Cruising through the grocery stores today actually led me to a rarity – an actual physical retail product for sale. I really have only bought retail 4-5 times since the pandemic started. Most of the time I’ll support my local hobby shop but I can’t bring myself to buy marked-up second-hand retail boxes.

In any case, there’s probably a reason why there was plenty of 2020-21 Panini Chronicles blasters available – there just isn’t anything that good in the set. Granted, you will find plenty of rookies and veterans in the set but they just aren’t valued that highly. The retail version of Chronicles is a collection of various Panini sets including:

  • Chronicles
  • Prestige
  • Threads
  • Panini
  • Luminance
  • Playbook
  • Donruss Rated Rookie
  • Essentials
  • Marquee
  • XR

There’s also no guarantee of autos or relics of any kind so be prepared if you’re looking only for high-end quality.

Here’s a breakdown of the two blasters we were able to pick up:

8 packs per blaster / 5 cards per pack

Box 1

  • Highlights – three different Obi Toppin pink parallels; 2 XR RJ Hamptons as well as 2 Marquee RJ Hamptons; lastly, it also included 2 Facundo Campazzo Essentials
  • 6 parallels – pink (1 in 1.3 packs)
  • 2 Essentials (the aforementioned Facundo Campazzo)
  • 3 Marquee
  • 2 Luminance
  • 2 Playbook
  • 3 XR
  • 3 Threads
  • 4 Panini
  • 6 Chronicles
  • 4 Rookies & Stars
  • 3 Prestige
  • 1 Phoenix
  • 1 Hometown Heroes

Box 2

  • Highlights – Myles Powell Phoenix auto! one pink Luminance Tyrese Maxey
  • 6 parallels – pink (1 in 1.3 packs)
  • 3 Essentials
  • 3 Marquee
  • 3 Luminance
  • 2 Playbook
  • 2 Xr
  • 3 Threads
  • 2 Panini
  • 6 Chronicles
  • 4 Rookies & Stars
  • 3 Prestige
  • 1 Phoenix (Myles Powell auto)
  • 1 Hometown Heroes
  • 1 Donruss Rated Rookie

Overall Rating – C

Pros

  • You’ll see a lot names you’ll recognize
  • Even though they come out of Chronicles, rookie cards still rookie cards and you’ll see plenty in here

Cons

  • We got lucky and pulled an auto in the second box but they are not guaranteed
  • Tough to value a set when there’s 700+ cards in it, and multiple versions for many players
  • The blaster boxes only offer pink parallels so there’s not a lot of incentive to take these down
