Topps has produced an abundance of wrestling products the last few years that it’s almost too hard to keep track. Unlike in other sports that have different brands, it’s almost as if Topps has different focuses. For example, there’s a Road to Wrestlemania, Then,Now,& Forever, and Women’s Division sets, on top of the base Topps and Topps Chrome sets. And we can’t forget the Heritage sets as well. The standard base, Chrome, and Heritage sets are typical Topps fare so you know they’re going to be good.
We have to give it up to Topps for providing an individual set dedicated to the women’s division though. It’s not the best looking set by any stretch but it does provide a great amount of women’s division content. The base set contains highlights from the entire calendar year from 1-100 while a subset provides 55 roster cards of the women and legends.
The box contains two guarantees, including one auto. In my experience with Topps WWE products, there are very few variances from these guarantees – I’ve consistently pulled exactly what’s been guaranteed, which you can’t always say from other products.
Let’s get down to business though:
24 packs per box/7 cards per pack *pack that contained the relic only had 2 cards in it
- 22 Inserts
- 11 Rainbow Foil parallels
- 5 Fifth Anniversary Women’s Championship Tribute
- 3 Diamond Cuts Die-Cuts
- 1 Purple Parallel #/99
- 1 Mat Relic
- 1 Autograph
- 143 Base Cards
- 95 Highlights
- 48 Roster
- 7 Rookies
As mentioned, the set design itself is rather plain, especially the Roster subset. It features a full card photo with lights behind the superstar and “Women’s Division” going down the left side of the card. The superstar’s name is at the bottom and the logo of the brand their assigned to is in the bottom left corner. The Highlights that make up the proper set feature full color photos with lights on the top right and top left corners and the description at the bottom. The date of brand of the highlight are also listed at the bottom making this a pretty comprehensive description of the card.
The Fifth Anniversary cards look great with a giant “5” floating in front of the highlight the card presents.
I’m a huge fan of die-cut cards and the Diamond Cuts are great. There’s no real theme here other than just certain superstars being highlighted here.
As advertised, we pulled on relic and one autograph. Nothing spectacular though as neither are numbered and neither are huge superstars, unfortunately. Nonetheless, Natalya will be a HOFer one day so this is a solid get. We only received one numbered parallel – a purple Candice LeRae highlight numbered to 99.
In conclusion, if you’re a WWE fan and enjoy watching arguably the best women’s division in wrestling you’ll probably enjoy this set. Great highlights and a full roster make this a great set to complete.
Overall Rating = B+
Pros
- Cheap intro price at ~$70 per box
- Guarantees always seem to hit with Topps
- Specific to the WWE women’s division so if you’re only focused on the female superstars you’ll be happy to get this
Cons
- Pretty generic design
- Because it’s only focusing on the women’s division you will see the same superstars on multiple cards (that could be a pro though if they’re someone you PC)
- Not too many color parallels
